The voting is open: In the last few days we received numerous applications for this year’s scholarship program “Study Abroad with a child” and now the jury has made a decision: Young people from all over the world have proved themselves as organizational talents as they have decided to study abroad despite having a child.
Along the lines of “diversity enriches the education infrastructure” it’s not about the best grades or the most demanding course – it’s about the desire to further your education with a child at your side, it’ about the courage to take this big step abroad and it comes to strength of personality.
If you are mastering this double burden in everyday life, you can not only be incredibly proud of yourself, but with a little luck you will be sponsored by Mawista for a period of 12 months with 500 Euros a month!
Each of the candidates is extraordinary and courageous – after all studying abroad with a child is a great challenge. Nevertheless, the best candidates had to be selected and we are pleased to present them to you now!
The winner of the scholarship is determined using a public vote.

Beginning studies with the dream of changing the world, I faced an unplanned pregnancy. My hard choice to both keep the child and continue University meant to lose most friends and family, to move into social housing as a single mother, alone abroad with a new language. All said I would fail.
After a high-risk pregnancy and frightening emergency birth I am now returning to studies and every smile of beloved Leo shows me that giving up is no option. It is brutal but he’s worth it.

Actually, I’m willing to immigrate if there is a chance to live in a European country like Germany with my small family (my wife and two children). Because our living situation here in Yemen is getting worse. I lost my job due to the war. Also, I’m looking forward to pursue post graduate bachelor degree, as I gained an IT Diploma.
I’d like to gain a bachelor degree in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering to get a good chance to work with international companies because they require at least a bachelor degree.

When I became a mother at the age of 20 I didn’t know what was coming towards me. And on top of that I decided to become a doctor! I grew up in Spain, my daughter was born here, that’s why I decided to study here. Second jobs are underpaid here due to the financial crisis, which is why the scholarship would be a big relief for the two of us! I thank you for this opportunity!

As a mother of a 2-year-old daughter, whose father (Ethiopian) cannot support us financially, and being solely responsible for family upkeep, study costs and fees abroad, I depend on working several times a week beside caring for my child, managing the household and my study obligations.
Through a stipend, I could spend more time for my studies and with my daughter. Moreover, a successful graduation will serve as a secure base for my daughter’s future and for stable contact to her father.
