The voting is open: In the last few days we received numerous applications for this year’s scholarship program “Study Abroad with a child” and now the jury has made a decision: Young people from all over the world have proved themselves as organizational talents as they have decided to study abroad despite having a child.
Along the lines of “diversity enriches the education infrastructure” it’s not about the best grades or the most demanding course – it’s about the desire to further your education with a child at your side, it’ about the courage to take this big step abroad and it comes to strength of personality.
If you are mastering this double burden in everyday life, you can not only be incredibly proud of yourself, but with a little luck you will be sponsored by Mawista for a period of 12 months with 500 Euros a month!
Each of the candidates is extraordinary and courageous – after all studying abroad with a child is a great challenge. Nevertheless, the best candidates had to be selected and we are pleased to present them to you now!
The winner of the scholarship is determined using a public vote.

Being a mother made me follow the “Law of the Biggest Love”, as my mother says. That means that “I will always choose the best for my child”. The definition of “best” is individual and for me is to be a loving, balanced, honest and respectful mother. I see my daughter as a unique incredibly smart human being that deserves the best opportunities I can offer.
Dedicating myself to a PhD in Mathematical Philosophy in Munich and having more financial support would give us the necessary freedom to love, and stability to grow.

I was 17 when I got pregnant, since then I knew that the best way to give my daughter Isabela everything she needed, was studying. I started my studies in Electronics Engineering in 2012 when she was 4 months old.
Being a single and young mother was not easy. Now that my studies are ending, I want to start to pursue a Master’s degree in Germany. My family cannot afford my studies and I will not be able to make it possible without my daughter by my side.
The MAWISTA Scholarship will give me the chance to pursue my dreams and teach my daughter that she can accomplish all her goals.

Being a student with a child is not easy, even though society has become more sensitive. What we have never expected though is, that it would be more difficult for me as the father. But absences due to the illness of my child, parental leave to allow my girlfriend to graduate, long breaks in the curriculum vitae – somewhat objectionable since men are supposed to be “less naturally demanded” by their children. Making money also gets more difficult. We still want the master! Now I’m 30 and Oskar gets a sibling but while the financial worries remain I am able to combine two things I enjoy very much: being a father and a student.

Hereby I would like to apply for a scholarship from the MAWISTA. I come from China and study at the FAU in the 5 th semester. In April last year, my daughter came into our lives. Her arrival makes me very happy. But it’s also a little bit hard for me to take care of a baby while writing my master’s thesis.
I hope that I can get the scholarship from your company. And I think that can make my last semester easier.
