Cost of a Schengen Visa

The cost of a Schengen visa varies depending on the type of visa and personal circumstances. The fee is due upon application and is non-refundable.

Overview of Fees

For Schengen visas up to a stay of 90 days, a uniform fee applies regardless of the length of stay. The costs of an airport transit visa (category A) and a short-term visa (category C) are therefore summarized in the first row of the following table. For a national stay (Category D) there is a higher fee, and the rules for discounts differ in part. These features can be found in the second row of the table.

In principle, you pay the visa fee at the responsible embassy or consulate at the time of your application – either in cash, by EC card or by credit card.

  • Azerbaijan
  • Romania
  • Russia

Citizens of the following countries who continue to be subject to the visa requirement due to a non-biometric passport:

  • Albania
  • Bosnia Herzegovina
  • Georgien
  • Mazedonien
  • Georgia
  • Macedonia
  • Moldova
  • Montenegro
  • Serbia
  • Ukraine
Exempt 0,- EUR
Children under 6 years

Pupils, students, graduate students, accompanying teachers for study or educational purposes

Researchers from third countries for research purposes

Representatives of non-profit organizations up to the age of 25 for attending seminars, conferences, sports, cultural or educational events of this organization

Spouses, registered same-sex partners and underage, single children of a Schengen citizen; Parents of Schengen citizen minors and family members of EU / EEA nationals, provided that these enjoy free movement

Visits to relatives for nationals from:
Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan

News

The European Union has agreed on an increase in the visa fee in the Schengen visa regulation. As a result, the visa fee will be increased from the original 60 euros to 80 euros from January 2020. For children between the ages of six and 12, a fee of 40 euros will have to be paid.

Good to Know

The right to a reduction or exemption from the visa fee may be assessed on a case-by-case basis. The stay must serve a special interest:

  • Promotion of culture
  • Foreign or development policy funding
  • Other significant public interest
