Application

MAWISTA Reisecare insurance cover is valid worldwide except in your home country. Depending on the tariff you choose, insurance cover in the USA or Canada can be either included or excluded.

An application to extend a policy can be submitted very easily by email. It is important to state the insurance number and the number of months by which the policy should be extended. The information will be checked upon receipt and a response will be sent in writing.

A MAWISTA Reisecare policy can be cancelled at any time on a daily basis by email without having to give a reason. The notice of termination will be checked upon receipt and a response will be sent in writing.

With the MAWISTA Reisecare tariff, you can also take out optional accident and liability insurance. Accident insurance will pay out compensation if you have an insured accident during your travels that leads to disability or death. Liability insurance pays costs for damages caused inadvertently by you in daily life. This includes property damage (damage to or destruction of property) and personal injury (damage to health, injury or death of third parties). For property and personal damage, the sum insured is up to €1,000,000 per person and up to €250,000 for damage to rental property (for example, water damage caused by you).

In the case of damage, we strongly recommend immediately noting down the name and address of any witnesses. Please do not admit liability for any damage at the scene of an accident. This may lead to insurance claims being lost as the insurer is the party charged with investigating the circumstances. For further processing, we also require a damage report containing all the information to hand, as well as supporting documents:

  • Description of the incident
  • Name and address of witnesses
  • Police reports
  • Photos
  • Bills

You can easily submit supporting documents via email or post. The processing time is normally 2 weeks.

Report damage

Most international health insurance plans must be taken out before the start of your trip and cover the duration of your stay. If your trip is extended, these criteria will not be met. In this case, you need a so-called follow-on insurance policy.

Follow-on insurance can be taken out when you are already abroad on your travels. It can also be taken out for parts of your trip. It is not obligatory to take it out for the duration of your trip. The prerequisite for follow-on insurance is seamless transition from your previous insurance plan, i.e. there must not be any gaps in the insurance cover.

MAWISTA offers the MAWISTA Reisecare tariff as follow-on insurance plan. This tariff can be taken out on a daily basis, ensuring a seamless transition from your previous insurance without having to pay twice.

If the illness is minor (for example, you have the flu, headaches or have had a minor accident), we recommend you find a general practitioner in the local area. If you have toothache, you should go straight to a dentist.

If you have severe pain or have had a serious accident, go straight to a hospital. If you need to stay in hospital as an inpatient (e.g. for an operation), you must contact your insurer immediately. In this case, the emergency call centre team will clarify the details of how the costs will be covered directly with the hospital. This has the advantage that high hospital bills do not have to be disbursed. The insurer will cover the costs directly.

The prerequisite for obtaining a declaration of cost acceptance is the treatment of an acute illness (no pre-existing condition) that is medically necessary and cannot be postponed.

The following documents are needed in order to check that this requirement has been met:

  • Detailed report on findings by the doctor who ordered the operation
  • Medical history
  • Symptoms
  • Information about when the operation will take place
  • Information about where the operation will take place

Costs for medication will be covered provided they have been prescribed by a doctor for medically necessary treatment of an acute illness.

With MAWISTA Reisecare, generally only treatment that is medically necessary and has occurred after the start of the insurance term will be reimbursed. Treatment for pre-existing conditions will therefore not be paid for by the insurer.

Section 3 of the conditions of insurance outlines the cases where there is no insurance cover:

1. No insurance cover is provided for

a) Medical treatments and other medically prescribed measures which are the reason for the trip;

b) Medical treatments and other medically prescribed measures which were known to be necessary by the insured person prior to commencement of the insurance or at the time the policy was taken out, or which must have been expected by them due to known circumstances;

c) Dental treatment that goes beyond treating pain, repair of dentures and temporary solutions;

d) Massage and wellness treatments, mud treatments and lymph drainage as well as the purchase of prostheses and aids;

e) Treatment of alcohol, drug and other addictions and their consequences;

f) Deliveries after the 36th week of pregnancy and terminations that are not medically indicated or can can be postponed and their consequences;

g) Treatment or hospital stays related to prolonged illness, nursing care or need for compulsory care or custody;

h) Psychoanalytical and psychotherapeutic treatment and hypnosis;

i) Injuries that occur as the result of active participation in competitions by sports organisations and related training;

j) Treatment by spouses, life partners, parents or

children. Proven material costs will be reimbursed in accordance with the tariff.

2. If a treatment or other measure exceeds what is medically necessary, the insurer may reduce the benefit to a reasonable amount. The fees and charges must not exceed what is considered normal and reasonable in the country in question. Otherwise the insurer may reduce the reimbursement to be in line with the customary rates in the country.

We will cover you if you fall ill with Covid-19 during your stay abroad.

The following services are covered, provided they have been ordered by a doctor:

  • Medically necessary treatments
  • Examinations
  • Medication
  • Costs for in-patient quarantine
  • PCR test (if symptoms present)

Bills are submitted via our claims form. This needs to be completed in full. Once you have sent the form, you will receive an automatic confirmation of receipt via email. The insurer will then check whether the invoice can be reimbursed and deal with the rest.

No, they do not need to be translated prior to submission.

So they can check hospital bills, your insurer will need the following documents:

  • Admission notification from the hospital
  • Discharge notification from the hospital
  • Bill
  • Full discharge report

In the case of damage, we strongly recommend immediately noting down the name and address of any witnesses. Do not admit liability for any damage at the scene of an accident. This may lead to insurance claims being lost as the insurer is the party charged with investigating the circumstances.

For further processing, we also require a damage report containing all the information to hand, as well as supporting documents:

  • Description of the incident
  • Name and address of witnesses
  • Police reports
  • Photos
  • Bills

The documents should be sent in one email to
sachschaden-awpde@allianz.com.

In order to switch to MAWISTA Reisecare from another insurance company during your stay abroad, you should check the cancellation periods with your previous insurance company. You should avoid having two insurance policies running concurrently as this makes it difficult to determine who should pay.

If you have any questions, our staff would be happy to help. We are available Monday to Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.:

Email: info@mawista.com
Tel.: +49 7024 469 510

Simply send a brief email to info@mawista.com and state your policy number and the number of months for which the policy should be extended.

If your policy has expired, you will not be able to extend the insurance term. In this case, your only option is to apply for a new insurance policy.

We generally recommend that you apply for the maximum insurance term you can as applications to extend your contract can be refused by the insurer. Despite the longer policy term, there is still flexibility as you can cancel your insurance policy early at any time on a daily basis without giving a reason.
