Which doctor or hospital can I go to?

For minor illnesses (e.g. flu, headaches or minor accidents), we recommend visiting a general practitioner in the neighbourhood. If you have a toothache, you should go directly to a dentist.

In the case of severe pain and serious accidents, you should go to hospital. If hospitalisation is necessary (e.g. due to an operation), the insurer should be contacted immediately. In this case, the staff at the emergency call centre will clarify the details of cost coverage directly with the hospital. This has the advantage that high hospital bills do not have to be laid out. The insurer pays the costs directly.

What happens if I have to call an ambulance?

In acute emergencies, please call the emergency doctor on 112, after which you should inform the Assistance as soon as possible to ensure that all necessary costs are covered.

What documents are required to obtain a declaration of assumption of costs?

The basic requirement for receiving a declaration of assumption of costs is the treatment of an acute illness (no previous illness) that is medically necessary and cannot be postponed.

The following documents must be submitted to verify these requirements:

  • a detailed report from the doctor who ordered the operation
    medical history
  • symptoms
  • Information on when the operation is to take place
How quickly do I have to inform the insurer if I am hospitalised?

Please inform the Assistance as soon as you know that inpatient treatment or an operation is necessary so that the costs can be clarified with the hospital in good time.

How can I submit invoices?

Rechnung werden über unser Invoices are submitted using our Claims form . This must be completed in full. After submitting the form, you will receive an automatic confirmation of receipt by e-mail. The insurer will then check the eligibility of the invoice for reimbursement and initiate all further steps.

What do I do if I have several invoices?

You can submit several invoices at the same time. Make sure that each invoice is complete and contains all the necessary information. You can upload them using our claims form.

What information must be included on the doctor's invoice?

The invoice should contain the following information: Name of the doctor, diagnosis, exact description of the treatments or examinations carried out and the date of treatment.

Do medical bills have to be translated before submission?

No, prior translation is not necessary.

What documents are required for the reimbursement of hospital bills?

The insurer requires the following documents to check hospital invoices:

  • Admission notification from the hospital
  • Discharge note from the hospital
  • invoice
  • Complete discharge report
How long does it take until I receive a refund of my costs?

As a rule, we process submitted invoices within a few days, and refunds are usually made within two weeks.

How do I find out whether my invoice will be refunded in full?

After checking your invoice, you will receive feedback from us detailing which costs are covered and whether any deductibles apply.

Are medications also insured?

The costs of medication are generally covered if they have been prescribed by a doctor for the medically necessary treatment of an acute illness.

Can I freely choose my doctor in Germany?

Yes, you have a free choice of doctor in Germany and can choose both general practitioners and specialists according to your needs.
If you call the Assistance, they will arrange an appointment with a doctor for you.

Do I have to pay the doctor's bill myself or will it be covered directly?

You must first pay smaller medical bills (e.g. for GPs) yourself and then submit them to us for reimbursement. In the case of hospitalisation or operations, the insurer will cover the costs directly.

What do I do if I need a doctor's appointment?

If you need help making an appointment, our Polish-speaking assistance team will be happy to help you.
