Emergency numbers

Medical on-call service

In Germany, if you have a medical problem that is not life-threatening, call your regular doctor first. If he or she is not available, you can call the on-call service of the public health insurance system at 116117

Outside of Germany, you should familiarize yourself with the most important emergency numbers before you travel.

Rescue service

In case of real emergencies, which are acute and possibly even life-threatening, you go directly to the emergency room of a hospital in Germany or call the rescue service under the number 112. This number is valid throughout the EU. You dial it even if you are not sure whether a person’s condition is or could become life-threatening.

Outside the EU, you should find out the number of the emergency service before you travel.

Direct cost coverage

In case an inpatient treatment in hospital is necessary (as for example due to an operation), the insurer has to be contacted immediately. This applies to stays in Germany as well as outside of Germany.

For the tariffs MAWISTA Student, MAWISTA Expatcare, MAWISTA Reisecare and MAWISTA Visum, the employees of the MAWISTA emergency call center clarify the details of cost coverage directly with the hospital. This has the advantage that no high hospital bills have to be laid out, as the insurer will cover the costs directly in this case.

You can reach the staff at the MAWISTA emergency call center around the clock by calling +49 89 62424-496.
