Ways we support you in your efforts to save the environment
MAWISTA arranges individual health insurance for students living abroad. We aim to do more than simply protecting the health of students during their studies – we aim to also actively support students in their sustainability projects around the world. We plan to support numerous projects around the world in the coming year to create a better world.
Our new financing programme is a startup help for innovative project ideas and support for ongoing sustainability projects that contribute internationally to sustainable development in the areas of environmental protection, climate protection and green construction.

Terms and conditions for receiving a grant
Projects eligible for a grant
The application for the project grant is open to students who wish to save, or are already saving,the environment with their projects around the world. We support projects that have already started as well as projects that need some help starting out. We even support promising sustainability project ideas.
Our grant is aimed at projects with a relevant and current connection to the global sustainability targets that contribute to sustainable development. We will support your projects anywhere in the world. Each individual project is entitled to a one-off grant covering a period of one calendar year.

If you are interested, submit your application by 30 November 2022.
Our jury selects five finalists from all applications by 15 December 2022.
One winner is selected by public vote from 1 to 15 February 2023.
3 steps to receiving your grant
Application and selection process
Application
All applications must be submitted in German, in accordance with the specifications below, on the
official application form and by the deadline. Please answer the questions in the project requirements section when completing your application.
Your application should provide us with a comprehensive idea about your project. At the same time, however, please stick to essentials only. The dossier should not exceed 8 pages. Please include the following information in your application:
- Presentation of the project team and cooperating university or college, if applicable
- Written description of your ideas and project targets
- Video introducing the players and applicant
- For existing projects, photos of the current status and previous results
The written introduction, including team introduction, and concept brief must be uploaded as a PDF file. The introduction video and photos can be in any format of your choice.
Our experts assess if applicants should receive support on the basis of the following questions:
Is the project likely to contribute to sustainable development?
- What relation and relevance to current happenings does the topic have?
- Can the candidate show a convincing understanding of sustainability?
- What is the potential of the project or project idea?
- How practical is the project or project idea?
How good is the quality of the grant application?
- Has the project been presented in a convincing manner?
- Does the applicant have clear project ideas and targets?
- Are the budget and timetable realistic?
- What are the expected project results?
Is the applicant qualified to implement the project that has been presented?
- What expertise of the topic does the applicant have?
- Does the applicant cooperate with a university or college?
Is the project innovative?
- Does the project apply a new approach?
- Is the project idea original?

You have won -
now what?
We will give you the first EUR 1,000€ at the beginning of your project so that you get off to great start.
Your project, which we are financially supporting, is to be regarded as an example which we wish to communicate through our various channels. Once every trimester, you will provide us with documents about your project that are suitable for this purpose.

Reporting and communication
We mentor you during your project
We will support you financially during the implementation of your project for a period of one year. You will keep us updated with regular reports and provide us with material for sharing your work with the world.
You will submit one report every 4 month with the following details:
- Project progress and results
- Breakdown of how the funds are being used
- Direct project success
- General summary
- Documents required for communication (minimum 8 high-quality photos, 1 video report and minimum 400 words text)
Proof of use of funds
At the end of a trimester, we reserve the right to request a report on how the funds for the supported projects have been used for the intended purpose. You will provide us with the invoices and receipts.
We may request for you to repay the grant if you fail to provide proof that the funds have been used as intended.
You will have to repay the funds granted by us if they have not been used for the implementation of the project or the project is discontinued.

We do not support completed projects and pure infrastructure projects (e.g. solar energy systems).
Applications must be submitted by 15 January 2021. The projects must start no later than mid-2021.
You are welcome to refer to the MAWISTA grant as part of the press and PR activities for your supported project. However, this is not mandatory. You can use our logo in publications (flyers, posters, etc.) and social media posts for this purpose. We will be pleased to provide you with the files for this.
We assume the costs for actual expenses up to a maximum amount of EUR 1,000 per trimester and project. This includes external services and travel expenses. The grant should be used mindfully and specifically for the realisation of the project. When purchasing goods and selecting external service providers, please ensure that the materials and services are sustainable.
You can, and are in fact encouraged to, co-finance your project with your own funds and/or other financing sources.
If you fail to comply with our reporting requirements or deviate considerably from the timetable, budget or project plan during the project grant period, we reserve the right to terminate the support for your project, stop any further financial support and request the repayment of any grant money already issued.
